SUMMARY: Provides psychiatric assessment and medication follow-up services to individuals and their families in Catholic Charities programs. Provides consultation to treatment teams in the development of treatment plans and provides instruction, education, and guidance in understanding and applying treatment procedures and approaches. JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: . Provides direct psychiatric assessment and care to individuals and their families in Catholic Charities treatment programs, including psychiatric evaluation, psycho-pharmacotherapy, and other psychiatric interventions as applicable for the populations assigned. Interviews clients and their families, implements appropriate assessment tools and techniques, reviews charts, and consults with staff to develop accurate assessments. Based on assessments writes orders for medications required and develops plans for non-medical interventions. . Serves as a consultant to treatment teams to provide clinical direction and education in the development of individual treatment plans and the implementation of the interventions outlined in the treatment plans. . Facilitates the instruction, education, and guidance of staff in understanding and applying treatment procedures and approaches by providing informal and formal consultation, including developing and presenting lectures/in-service training as requested. . Communicates with team members regarding diagnoses and treatments. Educates clients and their families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, as appropriate to age and cultural background. Ensures that clients and their families are appropriately informed and obtains necessary consents for treatment. . Completes required documentation including consents, assessment notes, contact notes, recommended treatments, etc. Ensures that documentation is adequately maintained. . Performs related duties including but not limited to: serves on committees as assigned, provides on-call response to requests for assistance as assigned. Core Responsibilities: . Respects individual's rights by recognizing the dignity of each individual and maintaining the confidentiality of all client information. . Maintains the environment of care by complying with therapeutic standards, risk management policy, and procedures for maintaining client safety. . Contributes to Performance Improvement at the individual, department, and agency levels. . Accurately applies knowledge of treatment approaches appropriate to the physical and developmental age of clients served. . Understands and applies policies and procedures for infection control. . Attends all required training and in-service courses (CPR, Crisis Intervention, Emergency Procedures, Infection Control, etc.). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: Board certified/qualified child and adolescent psychiatrist with experience working with child, families, and adults. Licensed to practice medicine in Maryland. Minimum of one year experience. Team experience preferred. Current CPR certification or certification eligibility required. Ability to conduct accurate and thorough medical and psychiatric assessments. Must possess a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of psychiatric theories, practices, and medications, as well as normal growth and development among children. Knowledge of Maryland State guidelines/mandates related to psychiatric care. Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of staff and families/clients from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with individuals, staff, families, and outside agencies as necessary to maintain professional and therapeutic relationships. Ability to communicate medical information in both oral and written form. Ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions; including the electronic medical record and electronic prescribing system. Basic PC, web browsing (ie Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook skills required. Other Microsoft Office application knowledge, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Skype, and OneDrive desired May be exposed to resistant or aggressive client behavior requiring ability to implement crisis intervention and therapeutic holds. Must be able to tolerate periods of significant job-related stress.
