JDG Associates, Ltd. has been engaged to conduct the search for the Executive Vice President & CEO position at the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI). The Client Headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, AWCI represents 2,300 companies and organizations engaged in constructing interior and exterior wall and ceiling systems, as well as their suppliers and manufacturers. AWCI offers a wide range of member benefits including education programs that cover every facet of the wall and ceiling contractor's needs. Also offered are technical publications and periodicals, including Construction Dimensions and an electronic newsletter, to strengthen member staff expertise as well as educating clients. INTEX, the largest trade show specifically catering to the wall and ceiling industry, is held every spring with AWCI's Industry Executives' Conference & Committee Meetings offered each fall. There is also the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (1977) to pursue educational and research activities benefitting the industry and the public at-large, and to provide financial grants to member company employees who fall on hard times. Additionally, AWCI provides members exclusive access to discounts and savings opportunities offered by AWCI partners. Notably, AWCI is active in the standards area working with standards and specifications setting organizations as well as other trade associations on legislative and industry initiatives. Specifically, AWCI provides technical resources to support the needs of its members and the industry at-large through participation at ASTM hearings. AWCI's technical committees, open to all members, provide guidance and support when addressing industry issues. The technical committees are: Gypsum Board Committee, EIFS & Related Products Committee, Construction Management Technology Committee, Interior & Exterior Steel Framing Committee, Lath & Plaster Committee, Special Products Committee, Exterior Envelope Committee. The Position Reporting to the Executive Committee, the position serves as the Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry and the Foundation of the Wall and Ceiling Industry regarding the day-to-day operations, strategic planning, program management, fiscal management and governance to the benefit of the members and the industry. AWCI has a highly regarded, permanent staff of 15 with a $4 million annual budget. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Ensure that a fully functioning and representative Board of Directors is appointed, as constituted by the bylaws, and is enabled to carry out those responsibilities as delineated in the bylaws. Ensure that officers and other Executive Committee members are fully informed about critical issues. Provide oversight and contribute to the planning and direction of the association, and carry out those responsibilities delineated in the bylaws. Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the President through daily/weekly conversations, mail and e-mail. Create an environment of strategic thinking about industry issues and association responses. Carry out all initiatives as approved by the Executive Committee. Provide financial oversight and management regarding accounting, investing, budgeting and reporting. Develop and maintain a productive work environment using the appropriate IT services and office technology, including mobile/telecommuting infrastructure. Serve as a role model exhibiting high ethical standards, honesty, diligence, work ethics and enthusiasm for the members, staff and industry partners. Maintain executive-level relations with other industry associations and labor unions. Recruit, develop and motivate headquarters staff to achieve the goals of the association. Requirements BA/BS, business, marketing, construction management, engineering preferred Broad experience in the primary functional areas of associations, including education, finance, industry relations, marketing, conventions, trade shows and membership development and retention Broad experience in the primary functional areas of foundations, including finance, fundraising, marketing, research, publishing and education Success in public speaking, organizational outreach, strategic relationship development Excellent written communication skills Experience in facilitating strategic and tactical planning Experience in the design and delivery of workshops, handbooks, manuals, video and other educational materials Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally Experienced in hiring, terminating, motivating and managing staff Making timely tactical and strategic decisions with less than perfect information Ability to deal with and respond to crisis situations CONTACT: Paul A.
