The Director of Finance (DOF) oversees all financial operations and directs corporate financial planning for the organization. The DOF, coordinates, analyzes and reports the financial performance to the President and Board of Directors (financial performance, projections and other special projects as required). This position is responsible for the preparation of short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties, both board of directors and corporate members. This position will oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms and review CCA's performance, as well as develop, implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting, employee relations (hiring/terminating policies) and other corporate policies. This position requires proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting (accrual base accounting) and all pertinent GAAP, SEC rules and regulations and overall compliance. The DOF is responsible for all finance activities including employee benefits, retirement plans, and corporate insurance and related activities. This includes the coordination of these activities with all school offices as well. This position will supervise two staff and report to the President. This position will also work closely with the Archdiocese of Washington DC (ADW) offices of finance and human resources and the Office of Catholic schools as needed. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Management and Oversight * Direct the work performed by the Finance Department including hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations and establishing performance objectives for all personnel supervised. * Develop, implement and maintain the workflow and assignments adequate for achieving the Finance Department's goals and objectives. * Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. * Create organizational financial policies and train other staff on their implementation. * Ensure the on-going planning, maintenance and updating of all accounting related systems. * Lead and/or participate in special projects that may be designated by the President as priorities within either the financial area or other areas of significant importance to CCA. * Oversee the treasury function including budget control and cash management, investment management, annual audit, financial reporting and grants management. * Coordinate the development and maintenance of adequate financial processes working with CCA's schools to ensure accuracy in financial processing. * Lead the implementation of any process improvement, redesign or system enhancement. * Work in partnership with Human Resources operations and provide guidance by driving efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of human resources, including recruiting, compensation, talent management (eg, training, succession planning) and administrative (eg payroll/benefits) programs. * Provide a visionary and leadership implementation role on behalf of Finances across the organization. * Report to the Board of Directors when necessary in writing and verbally or as instructed by the President. Budget and Financial Reporting * Work with the President to coordinate the creation, development, and monitoring of the organization's budget and projection processes in alignment with its strategy and plan. * Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements and internal financial reports. * Work closely with CCA's President and the individual school principals in reviewing school results, assessing budget goal attainment and recommending, developing and implementing revised strategies where appropriate. * Prepare all materials for the Committee and Board meetings. Compliance and Monitoring * Review balance sheet accounts, including cash reconciliations, along with supporting documentation; review income statement accounts to ensure proper recording of financial transactions. * Ensure monthly and annual financials are completed within Finance department guidelines. * Manage the organization's relationship with its external auditors and provide oversight for the annual financial statement audit. * Assess organizational controls for audit compliance. * Perform internal payroll and benefits audits at least quarterly and recommend any correction action to President. * Monitor cash and investment levels to ensure adequate cash is available to meet CCA needs. * Complete termination paperwork and assisting with exit interviews. * Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings and ensure all returns are filed timely and accurately. * Maintain best practices regarding financial controls at all times. * Understanding requirements of grants and monitoring activities for compliance. * Lead the efforts to implement all necessary new technical accounting guidance in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Requirements SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: * Business understanding of accounting (accrual basis) and human resources. * Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; and other financial data systems; * A passion for getting things done, and an appreciation for details. Belief in continual process improvement, but also must be ready to jump in to handle fires as they occur. * High tolerance for ambiguity, changing work priorities and deadlines, and a willingness to take on responsibilities and to prioritize work on multiple projects; * Highly detail-focused and results-oriented; * Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies including Archdiocesan offices, Principals, Pastors, board members, parents, staff and students; * Team-player attitude and strong customer-service orientation; * Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills; * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; * Utmost discretion in all presentations/correspondence and communication for staff, Board of Directors and President * Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and tenacity; and * Passion for CCA mission and fully supports the teachings of the Catholic Church. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year accredited college or university; * Five or more years related experience and supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience. * CPA license is preferred.
