Together with its affiliate offices, the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) oversees student life at the Law Center. We focus on issues affecting the student community and act as the primary liaison between students, faculty, and the administration. We are here to help you manage any conflict or wellness challenge you encounter during your time at the Law Center.

The Office of the Dean of Students at Georgetown University Law Center seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented team player to serve as the Special Assistant to the Dean of Students (ODOS). ODOS is responsible for overseeing student life at Georgetown Law, including management of the school's residence hall, 140+ student organizations, wellness promotion, equity/inclusion and disability services. The office also provides academic and personal counseling to students, oversees the academic support program, develops and implements a range of co-curricular professional formation programs, and coordinates the school's response to urgent or sensitive student matters.

The Special Assistant's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serving as office manager of the Office of the Dean of Students, including management of a substantial annual budget, handling day to day financial transactions, hiring and supervision of student assistants, and updating web and print publications.
  • Directly supporting the work of the Dean of Students, including research and other projects, correspondence, maintaining the dean's daily schedule, and participating in student case tracking and management.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for ODOS, including assisting students, faculty and staff who visit or call the office, often with urgent or sensitive needs or who are in distress.
  • Playing a key implementation and/or administrative support role in various student programs and services, ranging from fall JD orientation to commencement to Lawyers in Balance to disability services contract management and exam administration.
  • Direct administrative support of the peer tutoring and student travel funding programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Over time, qualified candidates may have an opportunity to teach in the school's Lawyers in Balance program or otherwise take a leadership role in one or more student programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ year of professional experience preferably in higher education or student affairs
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks, often under tight deadlines
  • Ability and desire to work with a diverse range of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, senior government and university officials, and the public, periodically in situations that involve students in urgent distress or experiencing personal or wellness challenges
  • Superior judgment and discretion
  • Experience handling sensitive, confidential documents and matters, preferably in an education setting
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Experience with webpage design, editing and management a significant plus
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail


Note: Students currently enrolled at Georgetown University Law Center will not be considered for the position.
