Responsibilities Seeking an experienced on-site Payroll Accountant to support payroll in our Arlington, VA office. This position offers the opportunity to be instrumental in business growth and development while still maintaining a great work life balance. This role partners with and supports internal/external users/management in issue resolution and the development of new process and technical solutions. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for accurate maintenance of the Employee Master File, timely management of the information feed from the HR System/department, processing of electronic time-sheets in Costpoint Time Collection, working professionally with ADP to prepare the semi-monthly/bi-weekly/weekly payrolls, tax payments and various ad-hoc reporting. Responsibilities: The daily operations within the Payroll Department. Responsible for processing garnishments, unemployment reporting, time-off reporting and generating standard and ad hoc reports. Responsible for balancing payroll runs and communicating transfers for ADP's services. Handling all withholding tax issues including quarterly and annual balancing. Assure timely an accurate filing of all federal, state and local taxes in various states where the company has employees. Performing timely and accurate preparation of semi-monthly/weekly/bi-weekly payrolls for entire company via ADP Workforce Now; ensuring employees are paid in compliance to state laws and company policies. Maintaining and update payroll system tables and configurations. Monitoring system performance and ensure system and data integrity. Performing provider bill reconciliation and journal entry spreadsheets as it relates to payroll and employee fringe benefits. Providing support in the Month/Quarter/Year end processes and/or audits. Perform benefit-to-cost payroll reconciliations to ensure the company is capturing all benefit costs appropriately. Supporting business users in the identification and resolution of payroll system and process issues. Supporting conversion and acquisition location implementations as it relates to the payroll system. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage projects or assignments that are moderately complex in nature where professional judgment is required in solving problems and making recommendations. Assisting with other jobs as needed. Qualifications Ideal candidate will have five or more years of payroll experience with thorough knowledge of ADP software . AS / BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Mathematics or Economics or equivalent experience is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required in order to respond to employee payroll issues and to facilitate clear and concise communication. Advanced experience with the People module of Deltek Costpoint 7.0 and ADP Workforce Now is required . Candidate must have the ability to work independently with strong time management and organization skills. Must be well versed with standard payroll concepts, practices and procedures. Excellent phone skills are required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred. Must have HR knowledge as it relates to payroll. Experience with Government Contract Accounting, ADP , Costpoint, HRB , Deltek Time Collection and/or Cognos Impromptu would be helpful. Experience in a government contracting environment preferred. Ability to exercise individual judgment in researching problems and resolving employee issues with a sense of urgency to meet strict deadlines. Must have a strong internal customer focus, and be a real "go to" person. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office needed. Must be able to: Work in a team environment Establish strong cross-functional relationships Multi-task Effectively and professionally deal with all levels of management and personnel Answer payroll related questions and trouble shoot issues Manage partnerships with technical support teams ensuring effective communication, prioritizing, execution, and adherence to established company policies and procedures as they relate to payroll Recommend technical solutions directed toward sustainable root-cause resolutions to payroll system or process problems Drive continuous improvement through identification and implementation of new value-adding process, application and reporting enhancements One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. US Citizenship required.
