Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to ensure proper collection and disposition of revenues generated at the assigned facility/beach. Performs most or all of the following duties: Greets customers, checking I.D. cards to assure only authorized customers utilize the facility. Issues and receives equipment, ensuring customers complete the gear issue chit. May be required to collect and store customer valuables in basket room. Maintains storage areas and displays. Responsible for cash and/or inventory issued. Records and logs daily and monthly locker rentals, program registrations, reservations and attendance. Answers telephone providing information in regards to facility hours of operation, upcoming special events etc. Accepts reservations/registrations for lap swims, exercise programs, lifeguard training courses, swim lessons, etc. Operates washers and dryers to sort, wash, dry, fold and store aquatics gear. Cleans and maintains aquatics facilities, performing general janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are in a clean, neat and orderly state all times. This includes sweeping and mopping floors, dusting and cleaning of office space, cleaning mirrors, bathroom and locker areas and straightening of equipment and accessories. May make minor repairs to facility and equipment. Reports any maintenance problems, material deficiencies and unsafe conditions or discrepancies that cannot be repaired in-house to the supervisor. As directed, sets-up/prepares aquatics facilities for scheduled events such as lap swims, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties, and etc. May assist with outdoor maintenance by cutting weeks, raking, picking up trash and debris and securing facilities as needed. May operate an electric or gas weed cutter and lawn mower. May operate a cash register, ringing sales for resale items, parking fees and/or cabana rentals. At the end of shift, completes the Daily Activity Report (DAR), verifying the amount of money collected and dropping the cashier bag into the drop safe. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY POSITION

A general knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and commonly used cleaning chemicals is required. Must have the ability to understand and carry out basic verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, make change accurately and prepare reports. Must be a mature individual and be skilled in customer service techniques, tact and good judgment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position reports to the Supervisory Recreation Specialist, who assigns work and sets priorities. The incumbent will perform recurring tasks independently in accordance with verbal and written instructions to ensure customer satisfaction. The supervisor is available to provide technical guidance for new assignments and unusual or difficult situations.

GUIDELINES

Guideline include BUPERSINST 1710.19 and 1710.11C, OPNAV 5100.25, local policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and instructions. All established programs and policies are based on generally accepted procedures and are sufficiently detailed to enable the incumbent to carry out duties without further instruction.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE AND EFFECT

Work involves ensuring operational efficiency in the aquatics facility during the incumbents assigned shift, requiring the completion of multiple tasks simultaneously and is subject to shifting priorities. Work is typically recurring in nature and completed with minimum supervision. Quality of work affects the smooth operation of the facility and customer satisfaction.

PERSONAL CONTACTS/PURPOSES OF CONTACTS

Contacts are with co-worker, public works department staff, authorized military personnel and their dependents and authorized civilian personnel for the purpose of giving and receiving information and customer service.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, stooping, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, reaching and climbing. Must have the ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor and lifting of objects weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted. Duties may be performed both indoors and outside. Indoor work may be in spaces that are hot, wet, and humid. Outdoor work is subject to exposure to extreme temperatures, working in direct sunlight frequently, wind and other weather phenomena.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

This position is subject to an irregular tour, which may include weekends, holidays, and seasonal work lasting up to 4 months. A valid state driver license is strongly preferred as the incumbent may be reassigned on an "as needed" basis to other aquatics facilities to cover staff shortages or to transfer equipment or rental gear. As a condition of employment, the incumbent must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
