Program/Finance Officer

This position is responsible for preparation and monitoring of student data and financial reconciliation as well as financial support to Exchange Programs with particular support to the Fulbright Department. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Student Payments
- Assisting Fulbright Director and Program Staff in monthly monitoring of project financial reports to check and correct coding errors and anomalies
- Issuing quarterly student cost reports
- Assigning student ID numbers and requesting student project number set up
- Liaising with the Accounting Department to resolve coding, and create new financial processes or other issues as needed
- Reconciling monthly credit card bills
- Maintaining and monitoring accurate participant financial records and student cost reports as well as performing annual audit of active student project accounts
- Assisting as necessary with preparation of wire transfers, voucher processing, and other duties
- Assisting in training new staff on financial and tax processes
- Additional special activities and responsibilities from time-to-time
Student Taxes
- Overseeing international students tax process for all AMIDEAST students
- Working with Sprintax for determining students’ U.S. tax obligations and students’ completion of necessary tax returns
- Providing Non-Resident Alien tax guidance to AMIDEAST HQ and Field Office staff and students
- Responding to student tax inquires and issues
- Reviewing IRS policies, tax treaties, forms, and procedures regularly and incorporating them in our internal Accounting processes
- Managing students’ W-7 Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) process for all students receiving non-qualified scholarship income in the U.S.
- Collecting Social Security Numbers, ITINs, and W-8BEN forms from incoming students
- Collecting Power of Attorney forms from departing students for authorization of deposits of IRS refund checks issued to students
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 year of experience
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
- Great research skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Interest in the Middle East & North Africa and/or International Education
- Experience working with students is a plus
