Responsibilities

As a Program Analyst (Head, Office Tribal Relation) within the Office of Science Quality and Integrity, some of your specific duties will include:

- Develops and implements Bureau-wide tribal policies with minimal oversight.

- Represents the USGS in meetings, work groups, and Federal/state task forces dealing with American Indian/Alaska Native issues within Department of Interior and other Federal agencies.

- Applies innovation and creativity to interrelate the potentially diverging interests with and between the Federal trust responsibilities , the policy on tribal consultation, and the USGS science mission to find workable solutions to problems and scientific/technical studies.

- Serves as the Tribal Liaison Officer (TLO) for the USGS as specified in the DOI Policy on Consultation.

- Works with USGS scientists to better explain USGS science to diverse, non-technical audiences.

- Works with remote sensing and earth imaging scientists, for example, the 3DEP and Earth MRI programs, to ensure compliance with USGS policies and statutes.

- Consults with tribes to understand implications of mineral identifications on tribal lands.

- Addresses controversial issues and makes recommendations that are of substantial significance to high-level Bureau officials and/or the programs.

  • Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-14 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-13 level work may include: formulating complex programs; conducting complex studies on assembly analysis, and interpretation of data; planning, organizing, completing several complex project assignments requiring coordination of work; and utilizing administrative/financial data systems.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.


Education
