CBP - Director, Small Business Development Center

Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2018, the CBP's highly qualified trainers and counselors created over 350 training events attended by over 3,600 entrepreneurs resulting in 1,029 individuals receiving one-on-one counseling. This activity led to the creation of 56 new businesses, 604 new or retained jobs, and over $3.5MM in direct capital investment.

About the CBP:

The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason University's Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Located in Springfield, Virginia, the CBP's mission is to be a complete resource center providing training and support to those seeking to start and build successful small businesses.

The Small Business Development Center is one of five centers of high impact small business services within the CBP.

About the SBDC at CBP:

The SBDC program at CBP is designed to deliver up-to-date counseling, training and technical assistance in all aspects of small business management. The SBDC at CBP in particular has a long and proud history of assisting established businesses to develop and implement high impact growth strategies.

The SBDC is part of a national network of Small Business Development Centers supported and sponsored by the US Small Business Administration.

Responsibilities: The Director's primary duties include: * Provide training events and direct counseling assistance to small and medium-sized businesses in areas such as business structures, marketing, management, finance, planning, accounting, international management, technological assistance, and government procurement * Develop program proposals and budgets as well as implement programmatic activities. * Identify sources of revenue for the SBDC, to include sponsorships and program (workshop/training) income. * Manage and recruit professional volunteers to assist with counseling and training activities. * Market the SBDC programs and events to businesses and allies in the region. * Network and leverage outside public and private sector resources and work with area businesses and the professional community. * Measure and evaluate the impact of program delivery and synthesize/analyze information in professional reports * Identify and respond to additional funding opportunities that are consistent with business-grown programming as well as the SBDC and CBP mission.

Required Qualifications: The position of SBDC Director requires proven leadership and an understanding of issues impacting small business owners. The Director must be able to provide business advice to starting or developing companies. A summary of the requirements: * Extensive background in small business issues and/or counseling * Excellent verbal and written communication skills required as this is a highly visible position within northern Virginia's business community. * Master's degree in accounting, business administration, management and/or public policy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience as a small business owner, manager or advisor is strongly preferred. * Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
