Director, Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC)

Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2018, the CBP's highly qualified trainers and counselors created over 350 training events attended by over 3,600 entrepreneurs resulting in 1,029 individuals receiving one-on-one counseling. This activity led to the creation of 56 new businesses, 604 new or retained jobs, and over $3.5MM in direct capital investment. About the CBP: The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason University's Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Located in Springfield, Virginia, the CBP's mission is to be a complete resource center providing training and support to those seeking to start and build successful small businesses.

The Veteran's Business Outreach Center is one of five centers of high impact small business services within the CBP.

About the Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC): The VBOC's mission is to provide entrepreneurial development services such as business training, counseling and resource partner referrals to transitioning service members, veterans, National Guard & Reserve members, and military spouses interested in starting or growing a small business.

Founded at the CBP in 2014, the VBOC offers high quality training, classes, networking opportunities, and one-on-one counseling to women and men in the Washington DC Metropolitan area, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

The VBOC is part of a national network of Veterans' Business Outreach Centers supported and sponsored by the US Small Business Administration.

Responsibilities: The Director's primary duties include: * Developing the VBOC's annual plans for classes, counseling, and events in accordance with SBA OVBD grant guidelines and CBP's mission. * Organizing and carrying out the highly regarded Boots-to-Business courses as well as Boots-to-Business Reboot classes and other exciting courses that meet the increasing interest in veterans as they start and grow their businesses. * Developing and implementing plans to market the VBOC's high quality services to clients as well as to stakeholders and other resource partners; * Providing expert counseling for people starting new business or seeking information on growing their existing business. * Providing leadership to the VBOC staff, support staff, subcontractors, and a passionate group of expert volunteers to assist with counseling and training activities; * Representing VBOC within the community and develop and oversee community outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications: The position of Director of the Veterans Business Center requires proven leadership and an understanding of issues impacting transitioning service members, veterans, National Guard & Reserve members, and military spouses.

A summary of the requirements: * Extensive background in small business issues. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills required as this is a highly visible position within the veterans' community. * Advanced Degree in Business - related field or comparable experience Preferred Qualifications: * Experience as a small business owner, manager or advisor is strongly preferred. * Experience in operating a community-based program or in serving community-based programs is preferred. * Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
