Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity

The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University (Mason) seeks an energetic and committed professional to serve as the Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity. The George Mason University College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) seeks a 12-month Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity (DITC). The incumbent will report to the Dean of the College through the Director of the Center for Discovery Science and Health Informatics (DSHI). The CHHS DITC works to assure the College's essential IT operations and manage compliance for specialized IT certifications that support CHHS and DSHI operations. The DITC's role in supporting essential IT functions is mission critical to support CHHS faculty, staff, and students to be more productive and efficient in their academic and research work. The Director is expected to anticipate and proactively respond to College information technology needs, to lead IT projects within the College, serve on leadership committees as a liaison between the College and central university administration, and to work collaboratively with other academic and administrative units to find solutions to security concerns and business challenges. The Director will develop, manage and oversee the college's IT policies and processes and interpret university and external certification and regulatory requirements.

DITC Security-related duties focus on safeguarding systems to ensure that they are secure from impending cyber threats and creating business continuity plans to ensure that the College can continue mission-critical operations in the event of a disaster. Day-to-day administrative duties include budget management; supervision of the College's IT staff, application programmers, web developers, video-conferencing, and desktop support technical staff; monitoring resources to ensure appropriate configuration, maintenance, and procurement of CHHS software and hardware; and interfacing with third-party vendors to manage IT opportunities and benefits for the College.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in Information Technology, Health Informatics, IT Management, Cybersecurity, Analytics or a related field * Demonstrated expertise in cybersecurity issues and protocols * Knowledge of federal and state requirements for privacy and security * Knowledge of health privacy and security policies, including HIPAA * Demonstrated knowledge of computing and web technologies * Ability to work with unusual solutions for research projects * Strong organizational skills and persistent attention to detail * Ability to lead and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously * Experience working in supervisory and project management roles Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with database management and development, Web design and computer programming * Background managing Linux and Windows Servers * Proficient in virtualization technologies and configuration management tools (e.g., KVM) * Experienced in compliance and requirements for attaining/retaining Security Certification (CISSP or GIAC GSLC preferred) * Health Information Systems Certified (CPHIMS) * Experience with infrastructure monitoring technologies and with SIEM (OSSEC, Splunk preferred) * Experience working with research computing * Experience in a university setting * Significant experience in consequential information technology and cybersecurity assurance/assignments

Individuals with appropriate MS degrees may be eligible to serve as Undergraduate faculty in teaching CHHS IT and Health Informatics courses.
