With a starting date of fall 2019, the department invites applicants to fill two term, non tenure-track faculty positions. Associated with one position is the opportunity to assume a leadership position in the department as the director of senior projects. Both positions are offered at ranks commensurate with education levels, with teaching experiences and with industry experiences.

Responsibilities: A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level is fundamental to these positions and to the mission of the George Mason University. A successful candidate for a term teaching position is expected to teach across discipline topics in mechanical and/or thermal systems. In addition to teaching expectations, all term faculty are expected to engage in service and leadership activities necessary to support the mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

With the appointment of the director of senior projects, the department seeks to fill this leadership position with a term faculty member responsible for leveraging her/his experiences to further develop its industry-sponsored senior capstone program.

Required Qualifications: Applicants for Assistant Professor rank must have received a PhD in mechanical engineering, or a related field, by the start date of the position. Applicants who have received an MS in mechanical engineering, or a related field, by the start date of the position will be considered for Instructor positions. Applicants should possess a strong commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: An earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline from an institution that holds regional accreditation and relevant industry experience that would enrich the learning experience needed for the practice of engineering, are preferred.
