Summary

You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) in the QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE, MECHANICAL INSPECTION BRANCH, NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

• You will identify and document deficiencies on nuclear deficiency reports.
• You will perform mechanical, piping, and structural inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections.
• You will conduct pre-test, test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.
• You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness is maintained and in accordance with local directives.

• Ability to perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and marking verification of nuclear material to ensure proper material control is maintained.
• Ability to perform weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and nondestructive tests (NDT).
• Ability to conduct mechanical, piping, and structural inspections.
• Ability to use special measuring and inspection devices (i.e. micrometers, gauge blocks, Heise gauges, durometer testers, thread gauges, borescopes, and vernier calipers).
• Ability to verify material through performing physical tests, physical comparisons, certification documentation, material marking, and post installation generic identification and traceability verification.
