Responsibilities

As an Attorney Advisor, you will:
  • Participate in legal and policy support while engaging with outside experts to obtain state-of-the-art thinking in business processes, innovation, and information technology to build on and strengthen the Bureau's policy, operational, and outreach efforts.
  • Assist with monitoring all policies, procedures, and guidelines to assess alignment with established and emerging Office on Innovation's goals and objectives, and participates recommending changes to organizational structures, policies, and program emphasis to optimize efficient decision-making, operations, and accomplishment of stated goals and objectives.

  • Assist with the promotion of the Bureau's innovation agenda across the consumer financial services industry. In conjunction with senior Office on Innovation staff, periodically meets with outside groups and members of the public representing the Bureau and its plans and actions with regard to the full range of Bureau programs. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with senior staff of key business units throughout the Bureau.

From the current CFPB Attorney Policy: Minimum Requirements:

1. Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B., J.D. or equivalent.

2. Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

3. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, or equivalent, that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. This requires:

Research and analytical ability, as well as an interest in public policy; AND
Oral and written communication skills; AND
Demonstrated interest in working with financial institutions from within the
public sector.

AND

For the CN-52:
Two years of related legal experience. Such experience must include experience as a licensed attorney in order to be creditable*;
* For the CN-52 grade level, clerkships can be considered qualifying when performed at any level as long as the clerkship enables the candidate to
successfully perform work requirements at the entry level.

OR
You must have twelve months of specialized experience at the CN-51 level (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that equipped you with the particular
knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.
