Responsibilities

  • Participates in the review of human research protection and data and safety monitoring plans.
  • Serves as technical expert with respect to various phases of regulatory interpretation and best practices relating to topics under consideration.
  • Assists in the preparation of comprehensive reports of study oversight and monitoring that include discussion of regulatory research protections and research objectives.
  • Provides guidance to and works collaboratively with Project Scientist/Project Officer to support the management of research resources, technical administration and programmatic evaluation of funded grants and other activities.
  • Assists staff with various grants-related administrative activities.
  • Prepares summary statements of Data and Safety Monitoring Board findings and recommendations for use by Project Officials and Investigators.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must have completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or, have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR

have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning and conducting health-related projects; assisting in the preparation of comprehensive reports of project results; carrying out assigned portions of quality control programs using selected statistical methods for use in quality control analysis; coordinating the compilation and preparation of periodic reports; OR

have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

GS-12: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting epidemiology-related health research; managing and evaluating grant applications; preparing comprehensive reports of study results; preparing funding plans and evaluating progress reports for funded projects.

GS-13: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for research programs; reviewing and evaluating grant applications and contract proposals; assisting in the preparation of papers and reports for presentation to professional groups and/or for publication in professional journals; and carrying out segments of complex studies covering a wide range of health topics.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
