Summary

As a Technical Writer at the GS-1083-12 with a full performance level of GS-12, you will be part of National Background Investigations Bureau, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for preparing clear, accurate, and understandable content in a variety of formats that communicate complex technical, procedural, and policy information to bureau leadership, business partners, staff, and customers. Work performed supports multiple offices in the bureau.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal offices and programs to identify communication opportunities, innovations, and information on people, programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies and tactics to advance the understanding and support of employees.
  • Develop new approaches, methods, and standards to resolve critical or highly unusual information problems.
  • Create a variety of technical, procedural, and policy documents that can be understood and applied by a variety of target audiences across multiple occupations.
  • Coordinate with diverse internal and external organizations to establish the guidelines for integrating certain roles into current processes.

Qualifications

For the Technical Writer, GS-1083-12 position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as the minimum qualifications for this position.

Basic Requirements: Applicants must have undergraduate or Graduate Education that includes a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by this position. (The equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.) Must submit transcripts.

OR

Possess experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience demonstrates the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. (Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications.) Must be referenced in resume.

Specialized Experience:Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that included: 1) writing and editing electronic technical documents and policies governing the conduct, management, and evaluation of investigative programs; 2) conducting investigative work, policy development, dissemination, and implementation; 3) writing, formatting, and editing technical manuals, user's guides, standard operating procedures, policy handbooks, job aids, presentations, video scripts, interactive courseware scripts, bulletins, reports, and FAQs; and 4) identifying communication opportunities, innovations, and information on people, programs, projects, and initiatives.
