Responsibilities

If selected for the position, you will:
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct criminal background investigations;
  • Take and process fingerprints for background checks;
  • Research and conduct preliminary investigations on applicants and prepare documentation to obtain security clearance;
  • Prepare necessary reports, investigative packets, and maintain background security records;
  • Establish and maintain information record keeping systems for the tracking of all information;
  • Provide information and assistance to staff personnel on background security policies and related matters.

Qualifications

For the GS-9 level: You must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such as degree or LL.B or J.D., if related.
OR
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating, and conducting background investigations; making recommendations to improve compliance with security policies and regulations; preparing reports and documents to present facts, findings, and conclusions; collaborating with other staff to collect and analyze data.
OR
A combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
