This position is located in the Office of IT Services Management (OITSM), Operations Management Services (OMS).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise critical IT support services required to ensure the 24x7 operations and maintenance of the NIH critical IT infrastructure, including systems that support patient and animal safety.
  • Provide leadership in centralized IT event management and reporting, asset discovery and configuration management, and oversight of the monitoring of IT operations required to ensure the health and performance of the NIH?s critical IT infrastructure.
  • Play a central role in implementation of an IT service monitoring centralization/consolidation effort to improve the quality of monitoring services, improve incident/event management, and provide oversight of the configuration management process.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource manager for projects involving IT operations services delivery.
  • Manage projects and assign or request resources to projects following established project management standards and methodologies and ensure the accurate tracking of costs, schedules, milestones, and available resources.
  • Present technical briefings for senior management and supported organizations.
  • Exercise the full range of supervisory responsibilities over subordinate staff.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) position, you must have IT-related experience as described below. The experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below:
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that you work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND to qualify at the GS-14 level:
  • You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal Government performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating, developing and implementing the operation of information technology infrastructure and systems; providing expert technical consultation on the development of long-range IT strategic plans and a wide range of issues relating to data archive, database architecture, information systems, computer operations and computer networks; providing technical leadership in the selection, evaluation and system administration for local area networks and associated servers; leading a team of employees in the information technology field; and developing and evaluating existing, planned/new systems and service metrics to assess performance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
