Job Description:

The School Improvement Coordinator oversees the implementation and monitoring of federal and state compliance requirements and best practices in the administration of both division-wide school improvement processes and implementation of Title I, Part A programs. The Coordinator works independently under broad federal and state statutes and other applicable organizational priorities to achieve Title I Programs and School Improvement Office and school division priorities. This position reports to the Director of Title I Programs and School Improvement.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in job related area required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Teaching or Administrative Licensed preferred but not required.

Experience:
  • Experience as an administrator, instructional, data, or School Improvement Coach or teacher in a Title I school; particularly a school in Comprehensive, Targeted, Additional Targeted, (or formally Focus or Priority) status is highly valued, though not required.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal education laws, regulations and guidance; particularly the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA - especially Title I, Part A), and the related guidance.
  • Knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, school accountability, and the Virginia Continuous School Improvement Planning Process.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with ACPS' Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with general project management/grants best practices, interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of, and preferably experience working with, tools that support the school division's School Improvement work including School Improvement Plans (SIPs), Schoolwide Plans (SWPs), and/or Corrective Action Plans (CAPs)
  • Experience tracking and managing large education data sets; making predictions and developing instructional solutions based on data analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses knowledge of ESSA and Virginia Standards of Accreditation for the purpose of guiding each school and the division to address challenges in student achievement.
  • Ensures timely parental and public notification of pertinent Title I information such as school improvement statuses of individual schools.
  • Analyzes student, tier, and school achievement data for the purpose of collaboratively assisting School Improvement Teams, PLCs, coaches, and teachers in the development and support of SIPs and tiered interventions that will have a positive, measurable impact on student achievement.
  • Develops/sources and maintains school improvement planning, tracking, and management resources and tools.
  • Gathers and disseminates Title I information/resources to division staff.
  • Visits schools to work collaboratively with staff on school-level teams as a division representative, and to offer technical assistance and professional learning regarding school improvement and general Title I matters.
  • Assists the Director in managing requirements and expectations for the division's Title I schools including: working directly with school-based coaches, teams, and administrators, reviewing and providing feedback on work products, and provision of technical assistance and professional learning.
  • Assists the Director in working with Central Office departments to develop and maintain the division's Department Improvement Plans and monitors for alignment with SIPs.
  • Works collaboratively with other Central Office departments and schools to refine and implement the division's MTSS protocols.
  • Assists the Director in the management of the Primary Preparatory (summer) Program (3P)
  • Communicates with school stakeholders (principals, administrators, teachers, coaches, parents and families, etc.), regarding program implementation.
  • Monitors the Title I parent and family engagement in each Title I school to ensure meaningful and effective parent and family engagement and compliance with ESSA.
  • Develops and coordinates the production of the office's division-wide parent and family engagement programming. Assists in development of school-based programming. Maintains contact with families through surveys, letters, emails, phone calls and meetings.
  • Maintains and updates as necessary critical office plans, literature, letters, surveys (and survey data), standing presentations, guides, handbooks etc.
