Job Summary: Westat is seeking a Senior Statistician with expertise in analysis and modeling to provide technical leadership, vision, and professional engagement in the areas of statistical analysis, statistical modeling, and statistical learning. M ethodological areas include, but are not limited to, generalized linear models, longitudinal data analysis, multilevel modeling, survival analysis, design and analysis of randomized experiments, causal inference with observational data, Bayesian statistics, latent variable models, measurement theory, econometric analysis, sparse data analysis, and functional data analysis. In this leadership position, you will join a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Westat statisticians, long recognized for their excellence in survey research, actively contribute to professional associations, and publish research in academic journals. Y ou will also work across research domains (such as public health, behavioral health, education, social policy, economics, or transportation) to conduct and oversee statistical analyses, guide statistical research, mentor professional staff, and provide a vision for the future development of Westat's capabilities in statistical analysis, modeling, and learning.


Job Responsibilities:


· Conceptualize scientific and policy research questions into statistical frameworks and models.

· Provide leadership in the design and execution of statistical analytics ; design and conduct sophisticated statistical analyses; develop robust statistical models; work with and combine data from multiple sources, including, but not limited to, data from social media, transactional or administrative data, and text or image data.

· Develop innovative approaches, develop and set methodological standards, and vet methodologies in the area of statistical analysis and modeling; ensure effective program and project quality review processes.

· Develop and promote research that enhances Westat's visibility through publications and conference presentations and further strengthens and extends Westat's reputation for statistical excellence.


Basic Qualifications:


· A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Statistics or related field with course work in statistical analysis and modeling, or a Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field plus equivalent work experience in statistical analyses and modeling.

· Candidates with a Master's must have at least 15 years of experience related to statistical analysis and modeling.

· Candidates with a Ph.D. must have at least 10 years of experience related to statistical analysis and modeling.


Preferred Qualifications


· Ability to collaborate with experts in other areas of statistics and with non-statisticians as part of interdisciplinary research teams to create innovative statistical solutions to address analytic and research goals at the project design and implementation stages.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to c ommunicate with non-statisticians to clarify objectives and ensure the project plan will efficiently and effectively meet them.

· A strong record of publications and conference presentations.

· Ability to mentor, guide, educate and grow staff.

· A publication record commensurate with experience.

Qualified candidates must have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidates will benefit from having a solid research agenda and from knowing R, SAS, or other statistical software, although candidates are not required to do programming.
