PHILLIPS Programs Schools are Blue Ribbon private special education day schools for children with learning and behavioral differences. We are hiring a part-time School Nurse for the 2019-2020 school year who will be responsible for oversight and support of the medical needs for all PHILLIPS Annandale and Fairfax School students.
Responsibilities include treating students for illness or injury, providing or directing any medically necessary treatments, maintaining up to date student medical records and coordinating First Aid, MATY or any other pertinent classroom or staff training.
Our children require committed, dedicated staff that want to work in a supportive, collaborative and dynamic environment.
Serious candidates should have the following required credentials:
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from College or University accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission of Collegiate Nursing education
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or multi-state licensure privileges)
- CPR and AED certified
- Enjoy working with a team
- Great references from previous employers

In July 1967, with a vision of applying behavioral principles to the problem of educating unserved children, Dr. Lakin Phillips, a psychologist, founded the School for Contemporary Education. From the beginning Dr. Phillips' vision included a firm commitment to active parental involvement and interest in the use of educational technology. The school opened two months later in a renovated house in McLean, Virginia with four students. The organization first established a tutoring program but special education programs soon followed. In 2001 the program's name was changed to PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families in honor of the founder. Piper Phillips Caswell is the current President and CEO.
From the initial four students, the organization has grown to serve nearly 500 students and their families from throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area annually in its four programs (two special education day schools, a therapeutic foster care program, and a home-based family program).
