Works as part of a program (Nurse-Family Partnership, Maternal Child Health Field, or Healthy Families) providing a variety of community health services to diverse and high risk pregnant women and their families using a multidisciplinary approach. This includes outreach, case-finding, health promotion, anticipatory guidance and education, case management and disease prevention. Identifies, screens, and assesses clients for health risks and implements public health nursing interventions that focus on positive pregnancy and infant/child health outcomes. Provides parenting education, child health and development screening, evaluation and consultation. Possesses a knowledge of community resources and refers clients as necessary. Collaborates with other professionals to assure appropriate care is provided, coordinates multi-disciplinary services, and supports families in attaining their targeted goals.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia; selected positions or area(s) may require additional certifications (e.g., CPR) to practice specialized Nursing skills; selected positions or area(s) of assignment may require the incumbent to possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of post-licensure experience working with pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children. Excellent communication skills, experience working with ethnically diverse populations and working on interdisciplinary teams. One year of experience preferred in home visiting case management in a public health/community setting serving culturally diverse families. Bilingual in Spanish and English highly preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) desirable.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
