The Department of Finance is looking to fill two Fiscal Assistant positions.  The primary purpose of these positions is to provide front-line assistance and general accounting support to Montgomery County departments/agencies and the public.

There are two Fiscal Assistant vacancies in the Division of Treasury.  Both positions process Transfer and Recordation Taxes, among other duties, in the Transfer Section.

TRANSFER SECTION Fiscal Assistants.  Act as a processor of instruments of writing in the Transfer/Recordation Tax Office. Duties will include delivery of customer service to taxpayers visiting the Treasury Division by providing transfer/recordation tax information and payment processing, reviewing deeds, mortgages, deeds of trust, contracts and other instruments of writing, preparing tax certifications, maintaining files for state agricultural and county transfer taxes paid in Baltimore, reviewing road club fees and calculating amounts due, preparing and reconciling daily batch work, assisting with electronic transfer processes and working on special projects. Position also supports other functions in the Tax Operations Section, including preparing property tax refunds, reviewing and correcting property tax accounts, collecting real estate taxes, calculating and collecting of recapture of State and County credits and assisting customers at the Treasury front counter or by phone with property tax related questions.

The work consists of a variety of office and administrative processes and methods, including the use of office automation systems and personal computers (PC), the Oracle financial system; the MUNIS property tax system; and internet-based computer applications to enter and retrieve data using keyboarding skills in an efficient and effective manner consistent with requirements of the position.

Each employee is responsible for developing and maintaining superior customer service skills; exercising sound professional judgment when dealing with sensitive situations and challenging customers.


Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible, fiscally related clerical experience (e.g., posting journal entries, processing fiscal actions using automated systems) including demonstrated proficiency with integrated work processing and spreadsheet functions.

Education: Completion of an Associate of Arts degree with a major in Accounting or completion of 12 acceptable college credit hours in Accounting.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted.
