Business Information Architecture (BIA) is looking for an Associate level candidate who is passionate about mortgage and related financial data, and applying standards and best practices to build and maintain repositories of metadata used to support the delivery of strategic initiatives. The successful candidate for this role will possess strong analytical skills and an interest in learning about business metadata and the artifacts and tools used to manage this information (e.g., a business glossary of terms, definitions; data dictionaries; etc.).

Additionally, this candidate should have an interest in or experience with writing requirements to support data enhancements, to support new or updated application functions, based on changing business needs. This role will work with end users, other analysts and data modelers to build and maintain the terms and definitions for business information to be stored within the Single-Family Business Glossary, and to maintain the mapping of these terms and definitions to the Business Information Model (BIM), the logical data model for Single-Family.

This role will work with business stakeholders to ensure that the business contexts, sub-domains within the BIM, are consistent with metadata management best practices and industry standards (e.g., ISO, NIST). This role will work with technology partners to ensure that the business glossary tool is correctly configured to support desired business functionality. Lastly, the successful candidate for this role will also be part of our exciting journey to operationalize Single-Family's big data strategy by ensuring its alignment to both the Business Glossary and the BIM.

Your work falls into three primary categories

Engagement Management
  • Manage and respond to Business Information Requests (BIRs) from end users, as part of managing and enhancing the Single-Family Business Glossary
  • Assist business customers with needs definition for data enhancements to Loan Advisor and for other major initiatives
  • Work with business customers to instantiate desired data changes to enable desired business outcomes and to ensure timely delivery to the market
  • Work with stakeholders to prioritize and orchestrate competing priorities from business customers

Data Management and Standards
  • Manage content within the Business Glossary, the definitive dictionary of business terms, definitions and contexts used across Single-Family. The definitions must be designed to engender a common understanding of what is meant by each term.
  • Learn and apply industry data standards (e.g., ISO, NIST) to the Business Glossary and BIM, and ensure terms and definitions reflect conceptual understanding of desires of the business
  • Learn and apply data management best practices to manage business terms and definitions, from a master data perspective

Stakeholder Communication
  • Develop and present BIA communications to inform stakeholders of the status of existing work requests and newer incoming requests
  • Develop creative and innovative ways for the BIA team to communicate with employees and maintain awareness of BIA value proposition and offerings; partnering with Data Governance and other stakeholders

  • Typically 0-2 years of related work experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related degree
  • Interest in or knowledge of the primary and/or secondary mortgage markets
  • Passion for communications excellence
  • Strong desire to learn about data management best practices, specifically regarding managing business metadata and conceptual and logical data representations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office

Key to success in this role
  • A sense of humor
  • Intellectual agility and interpersonal flexibility
  • Change leadership
  • Ability to work across silos
  • Comfortable in the space between no longer and not yet
  • Deep curiosity to learn about new trends and topics
  • Ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships inside and outside of Single-Family
  • Ability to use data to formulate and flex communications

Top 3 Personal Competencies to possess
  • Customer Focus - Personally engage with customers (clients) to learn and deliver on their needs
  • Partnership - Align myself and my team with what is right for the company, not just Single-Family
  • Drive for Execution - Focus on results rather than the appearance of results (i.e., be good, not just look good); be an impact junkie
