Business Information Architecture (BIA) is looking for a Professional level candidate who is passionate about mortgage and related financial data and applying standards and best practices to build and manage repositories of metadata used to support the delivery of strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will be part of our exciting journey to operationalize Single-Family's big data strategy by ensuring its alignment with metadata management best practices. The successful candidate for this role will possess experience working with business glossary content, such as terms and definitions for data elements, and their corresponding related business metadata. The candidate will also have experience understanding and using information from data-related artifacts (i.e., data dictionaries, entity-relationship diagrams, and data schemas), to write requirements in different formats (i.e., user stories, data schemas, etc.) for data enhancements to support changing business needs. The candidate will have experience conveying information of medium to high levels of complexity, either in writing or verbally, to audiences of varying levels of seniority (from Associate to Director, for example). Lastly, the candidate will have experience working with software delivery methodologies such as Agile.

In terms of responsibilities, this role will:
  • Work with business and technology partners to ensure that their needs are met using BIA service.
  • Prepare and report business metadata metrics which are meaningful to BIA stakeholders.
  • Work with end users and data modelers to build and maintain the terms and definitions for business information to be stored within the Single-Family Business Glossary.
  • Maintain the mapping of the business terms and definitions to the Business Information Model (BIM), the logical data model for all Single-Family data.
  • Work with business stakeholders to learn about and apply metadata management best practices and industry standards (e.g., ISO, NIST) to the BIM.
  • Work with technology partners to ensure that the business glossary tool is correctly configured to support desired business functionality.

Your work falls into three primary categories:

Stakeholder Communication
  • Develop methods of clear, concise communications with stakeholders
  • Ensure to articulate and communicate BIA value proposition and offerings

Engagement Management
  • Develop and implement new and innovative approaches to successfully implement data changes to better support business customers
  • Manage and respond to Business Information Requests (BIRs) from end users, as part of managing and enhancing the Single-Family Business Glossary
  • Assist business customers with needs definition for data enhancements to business-critical functions and systems

Data Management and Standards
  • Learn and apply data management techniques to develop an end-to-end perspective of how data flows through Single-Family systems.
  • Manage content within the Single-Family Business Glossary, the definitive dictionary of business terms, definitions and contexts used across Single-Family. The definitions must be designed to engender a common understanding of what is meant by each term.
  • Learn and apply industry data standards (e.g., ISO, NIST) into Business Glossary and BIM, and ensure terms and definitions reflect conceptual understanding of desires of the business.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Data Analytics, English, Information Systems, or a related degree
  • 2-4 years of experience supporting divisional / enterprise data driven initiatives
  • Knowledge and experience with the primary and/or secondary mortgage markets is ideal
  • Ability to think critically and logically
  • Strong data analytical skills
  • Passion for communications excellence (both orally and in writing)
  • Experience in Agile software development environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Keys to Success in this Role
  • A sense of humor
  • Intellectual agility and interpersonal flexibility
  • Deep curiosity to learn about new topics
  • Desire to develop and try new approaches
  • Change leadership
  • Ability to work across silos
  • Comfortable in the space between no longer and not yet
  • Ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships inside and outside of Single-Family
  • Ability to use data to formulate and flex communications

Top 3 Personal Competencies to Possess
  • Customer Focus - Personally engage with customers (clients) to learn and deliver on their needs
  • Partnership - Align myself and my team with what is right for the company, not just Single-Family
  • Drive for Execution - Focus on results rather than the appearance of results (i.e., be good, not just look good); be an impact junkie

Preferred Skills

  • Experience as Business/Data Analyst, including analyzing data and metadata to support software implementations
  • Experience using SQL and/or other programming languages to query data
  • Experience developing end-to-end data flow maps
  • Ability to understand and discern necessary data information from data artifacts, such as data dictionaries, data models and data schemas (XML, JSON)
