Summary

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will assigned to the Interagency Operations Branch within the Joint Exercise Division (JExD); Responsible for planning, executing and scheduling of worldwide joint and coalition training for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), Combatant Commanders (SOCOM, INDOPACOM, CENTCOM, SOUTHCOM, NORTHCOM, AFRICOM and EUCOM) and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (DOD).

Responsibilities

As an INTERAGENCY JOINT EXERCISE PLANNER at the GS-0301-12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, execute and evaluate all components of interagency interaction/replication in assigned exercises throughout the Joint Event Life Cycle (JELC).
  • Analyze the training objectives of the training audience to develop the appropriate level of interagency interaction/replication in exercises.
  • Provide appropriate area of expertise to the exercise design phase to support achievement of training and exercise objectives by analysis and incorporation of applicable portions of the current National Military Strategy, Presidential and Secretary of Defense Directives, treaty obligations, the current Unified Command Plan, Security Cooperation Plans, Department of Defense Directives, as well as CCDR existing Operational Plans and Contingency Plans. This will require attending doctrinal and subject area conferences to ensure the material presented reflects current and emerging interagency concepts and processes.
  • Provide subject matter expertise with respect to Joint Doctrine as it applies to interagency policy and practice as well as the Public Diplomacy aspect of Strategic Communications.
  • Maintain basic familiarity with the various model and simulation systems used in an exercise environment in order to insure the humanitarian functional data base, if used to support an exercise, is realistic.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, execute, and evaluate all operational components of interagency interaction/replication in exercises.
  • Analyze the training objectives of the training audience to develop the appropriate level of interagency interaction/replication in exercises.
  • Define issues and problems to be addressed during exercise planning and provide support during event execution
B. You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, execute, and evaluate all operational components of interagency interaction/replication in exercises
  • Analyze the training objectives of the training audience to develop the appropriate level of interagency interaction/replication in exercises.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
