Development Officer, Leadership Annual Giving
The Development Officer, Leadership Annual Giving will develop and implement strategies to increase revenue, strategic relationships, major gift prospects, and a culture of philanthropy as a pivotal leader on the University of Maryland’s central advancement team.
The Leadership Annual Giving team (LEAD) is responsible for the identification and solicitation of significant gifts from the University’s alumni, friends, parents and constituents. The Development Officer will lead complex and integrated strategies to drive new revenue through use of advanced data systems and strategic thinking, and by building long-term trusting relationships with some of the University’s most successful donors and alumni. This individual will be required to work independently and collaboratively to drive significant results and enable the University and its alumni to reach their ambitious goals and Fearless Ideas.
The Development Officer will work closely with alumni and philanthropists in the community, building support for the University and its efforts across campus. They will have both a track record of advancing relationships and a broad knowledge of advancement principles. This individual will meet, solicit and make meaningful contacts with donors and prospective donors to understand their goals and priorities, assess their interest and capacity, and raise support for campus initiatives. They will excel in a data- and metrics-conscious environment, while building key internal and external relationships.
The Development Officer will be a proactive collaborator who will gain exposure to the University’s wide-ranging strategic efforts. This position will collaborate with campus leaders, central units, school and college development staff, alumni relations staff, and other University representatives to manage prospect/donor relationships and strategies.
The Development Officer will have the ability to review and analyze donor/prospect data to inform and execute priority strategies. The successful candidate will have an aptitude in work with databases, data, and Excel, and will be comfortable utilizing these tools to fulfill their responsibilities. They will lead sophisticated outreach projects with multiple teams and stakeholders, as well as oversee and guide student workers to support the Development Officer’s efforts. This person will work alongside students, University staff, and other resources in strategic partnerships, to help position themselves to effectively build relationships and support through referrals and warm and cold leads.
This individual should have knowledge of and enthusiasm for the University of Maryland. He/she must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals and campus leaders. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as this position involves sharing the vision of the University with alumni and other supporters.
Must be able to travel significantly in the local Washington-Baltimore area. Regional travel may be required along with occasional work on evenings and/or weekends.
