About the Position: This position is for a Motor Vehicle Operator position working as a senior driver assigned to Headquarters USACE and the Humphreys Engineer Center Support Activity.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the full range of vehicles assigned, including passenger cars, station wagons and pickup trucks throughout the Washington, DC vicinity in all types of weather.
  • Performs all daily operator preventative maintenance on vehicles assigned, including checking and/or replacing fuel, oil and coolant, and assures that vehicles are clean.
  • Prepares all necessary paperwork and documentation to assure charges are properly assessed for use of vehicle.
  • Maintains vehicle records of use and maintenance, as well as use of assigned government credit card, when appropriate.
  • Routinely called upon to operate medium and large passenger vans carrying 6-12 passengers.
  • Performs a variety of duties, including delivering supplies and equipment to requesting elements.
  • Picks up excess equipment from elements for reuse or disposal.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of passengers, vehicle and cargo, as well as assuring that vehicles display flags and rank insignia appropriate to protocol for passengers being carried.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Work is performed both in and outdoors with exposure to all of the usual climate extremes and the dangers of operating motor vehicles in difficult urban traffic.
  • The incumbent may be required to work long or irregular hours to meet mission requirements.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to initial and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Motor Vehicle duties. I can operate a variety of motor vehicle including passenger cars, vans, and pick-up trucks; safely transport passengers and equipment; perform limited maintenance such changing tires and checking fuel levels; and prepare vehicle logs tracking mileage, gas usage, and maintenance. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT
    Work requires mild physical effort and dexterity. Moderate physical effort is required to
    load passenger luggage and supplies ranging from 20 to 50 pounds. The incumbent must
    have correctable visual acuity and sufficient hearing to meet vehicle operation licensing
    requirements.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    Work is performed both in and outdoors with exposure to all of the usual climate extremes
    and the dangers of operating motor vehicles in difficult urban traffic. The incumbent may
    be required to work long or irregular hours to meet mission requirements.
