Summary

You will serve as an ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR LEADER in the Installation Facilities and Environmental Division of MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO.

Responsibilities

  • You will operate heavy equipment and vehicles safely by recognizing their operational limits.
  • You will follow written work orders to transport heavy equipment to correct worksite.
  • You will maneuver equipment recognizing limits on locations (i.e., hills, canyons, rolling terrain, permitted sanitary landfill, construction sites) with difficult terrain.
  • You will operate heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications.
  • You will conduct preventive maintenance on assigned heavy equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • You will follow manufacturer's instructions for use of heavy equipment, power tools, trucks, and vehicles.
  • You will operate heavy equipment and vehicles safely, recognizing limits of operation for equipment or vehicle operated.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required
  • This position may require shift work.

Additional information

You will be required to train and/or guide lower graded employees in the performance of engineering equipment operation duties.

You will work outside in all kinds of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. The incumbent is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. The exposure to injury, overturning, noise, and vibration is increased when operating larger and more complicated equipment in more difficult circumstances. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, gloves, masks, and aprons.
