Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a Product Designer to join its Product Design team. This team of UX, UI, visual designers and creative technologists leads design strategy and visual approaches for The Post's suite of digital products, including, our native iOS and Android apps, internal tools and our paywall and account management experiences.

In this Product Designer role, you'll focus on the UX, UI, visual design and front-end development of internal publishing tools. These tools help journalists create, publish and manage content in a variety of forms, including text, photographs, content packaging, release scheduling and planning. The ideal candidate will have passion for identifying users' pain points and experience with designing and developing tools that optimize their workflows. The role will include day-to-day collaboration with newsroom users and publishing support.

You'll be part of a team of more than a dozen designers. You'll collaborate with product managers and internal stakeholders across multiple teams to identify, ideate on and propose new approaches to our user experience to help redefine how The Post publishes content to our millions of digital news consumers.

You have:
  • A portfolio that shows a strong body of work including outstanding visual and user interface designs
  • 3+ years of design experience on digital platforms
  • Extensive experience designing interactive applications, preferably content management systems
  • Strong front-end development skills working with HTML/CSS/JS, familiarity with React preferred
  • An established track record of producing business results through design
  • Deep knowledge of research techniques including user/stakeholder interviews, persona creation and journey mapping
  • A collaborative spirit and a proven ability to work well with others, building strong partnerships across teams
  • Comfort with design and prototyping software like Sketch, the Adobe Creative Suite, Invision, and Principle
  • Experience with or strong interest in digital media and news
