Purpose of Position - The X-Ray Technician position works closely with physician and other staff members to care for patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric and performs a wide variety of patient care activities in an urgent, acute care setting. Performs the duties of a staff radiological/laboratory technician under the order of a Urgent Care clinician. Performs a variety of laboratory testing and radiological examinations with a minimum of supervision. Also performs a variety of laboratory testing duties at the discretion of center management, dependent on facility needs and additional skills/ training of the X-Ray Tech.

Please note: This job may require "Roving," which consists of rotating to the various AHC Urgent Care Center locations. Your manager will discuss with you whether your particular position includes "Roving," and if so, the details of this job requirement. Generally this will be designated by your work schedule.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs radiographic examinations that are technically satisfactory, properly positioned, and processed adequately. Performs all quality controls and clerical duties related to radiology.

• Following on-the job training and at the discretion of center management, performs a variety of laboratory testing duties dependent on facility needs:
o Performs waived laboratory testing following OSHA accepted precautions and CLIA guidelines.
o Processes reference laboratory specimens to include venipuncture, specimen handling/ labeling, and tracking results.
o Responsible for QA duties directly related to laboratory.
o Completes forensic testing collections in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Drug Free Workplace Guidelines. May include urine drug screens, blood/breath alcohol testing, oral fluids and hair testing.

• Following on-the job training and at the discretion of center management, performs basic clinical duties to facilitate patient flow:
o Obtains a brief summary of presenting patient's chief complaint. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Documents vital signs, allergies, current medications, LMP and pain scale threshold if appropriate. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect.
o Applies orthopedic devices and dressings as ordered. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Interprets and verifies physician orders correctly. Investigates questionable situations.
o Performs diagnostic testing which may include EKG, spirometry, audiometry, titmus, and pulse oximetry to facilitate patient flow.
o Appropriately relays discharge instructions/care to the patient or family utilizing approved after-care instruction tools.

• Adheres to Adventist Healthcare Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

• Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives.

• Actively participates in outstanding customer service/patient experience and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

• Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or center.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

• Must be able to operate a variety of laboratory and radiological equipment and work with electrical and radiant energy.
• Current proficiency in CPR. Must have current BLS certification.
• Must demonstrate independent judgment and initiative.
• Ability to maintain organization and facilitating patient flow to minimize wait times.
• Ability to listen, understand, and communicate to effectively convey information and ideas
• Ability to solve day to day conflicts/problems in a professional manner
• Ability to handle frequent pressure due to deadlines and urgency of care.
• Requires judgment that could affect patient treatment.

Education and Experience Required:

• Associates Degree in Radiography or completion of Accredited Hospital based Radiography program.
• Registration with A.R.R.T. (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists), and Maryland License in General Radiography.

24 hours Day Shift
