The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and the Department of Health Metric Sciences within the School of Medicine at the University of Washington are recruiting to fill one full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor without tenure level. Assistant Professors in the Department of Health Metrics Sciences have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 - June 30) and is multi-year appointment. Anticipated start in Winter Quarter 2019. The incumbent will lead research tracking resources used to finance health and health care, and analyses of how these resources impact health outcomes and health systems. The research undertaken will include analyses of implications of heterogeneous and dynamic financing patterns, with a key focus on domestic and international sources of health system financing. Methods used by the incumbent for resource tracking and impact assessments will include a broad suite of quantitative methods including econometric and statistical models that incorporate incomplete data, causal analysis, and prediction. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the expansion of resource tracking research for the Institute as the organization pursues a research portfolio more comprehensive in scope, an increased focus on disease specific spending, and capture of subnational variation, when possible. Duties include use of data sources and quantitative methods for tracking development assistance for health and measuring health spending, and disease-specific health spending throughout the globe. A sophisticated understanding of health financing systems across the globe and development assistance for health sources, channels, and health focus areas is expected to perform the duties successfully. Faculty members will also take on an important leadership role in mentoring predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows working in the field of health metrics. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and level of appointment. Qualifications The successful applicants will have a PhD or foreign equivalent in economics, health economics, health policy, or a related field. The successful applicant will have demonstrated research involving financial, economic or statistical analysis with a focus in health, health systems, and health financing. Experience working on quantitative research linked directly to global health policy is required.
