Job Announcement

Serves as Outreach Coordinator for Fairfax County Wastewater Management (WWM). Position is responsible for developing, managing, administering and executing water quality and environmental educational programs in Fairfax County Schools for all grade levels. Responsibilities include recruitment, selection, training, and management of outreach program and staff; volunteers to serve as mentors for schoolteachers; acts as liaison between schoolteachers, outreach staff and mentors; develops and coordinates schedules for school program sessions. Coordinates schoolteacher workshops; develops program enhancements or new water quality educational programs. Also recruits, elects, trains, and manages outreach staff, and volunteers for WWM's public outreach and community events. Informs and educates the public about Fairfax County Wastewater Management through a variety of assignments and projects. Plans and participates in a variety of community events to better educate the public on WWM and its role in environmental stewardship and daily life. Supervisors all aspects of outreach staff and schedules workloads, manages plant tours for school age students, creates annual budgets and reports for the outreach program.

Note: Will report to 9399 Richmond Highway Lorton and as required deployed to various schools throughout Fairfax County. Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. However, occasional weekend, evening and holiday hours are required.

The functional area is communications, environmental science and education.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area such as human resources, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and business management, statistics, mathematics, or related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, science, education or related field. Excellent communication skills written and verbal. Five years of experience developing educational, community outreach programs and public speaking. Wastewater and laboratory experience and five years supervisory experience. Ability to manage large scale related educational programs in schools and experience in managing a broad range of activities with various organizations, partner institutions and stakeholders. Excellent skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites and publication software.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Is required to satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

The appointee to this position is designated as emergency service personnel by the as such, is subject to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies to fulfill service duties. You must make every reasonable effort to be accessible for communication. During unscheduled leave or administrative leave declarations by the County Executive, emergency personnel are required to report for work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
With or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Mobility to move to different locations in event of emergency. Ability to lift 40 pds unassisted.
