Land Development Services (LDS) is the steward of the county's land development and building construction codes and regulations, and its staff members embrace their essential role as "first preventers." Every day, through careful review, permitting and inspection of site and building construction, our staff protects the health, safety, welfare, and environment for those who live in, work in, and visit Fairfax County. Our department also serves as the gateway to much of the county's economic development, reviewing over 26,000 building and site plans, issuing nearly 60,000 building permits, and conducting over 216,000 building and site inspections each year. Serves as an IT Technician supporting the Department of Land Development Services (LDS) and the Department of Code Compliance (DCC) providing tier one help desk support. Provides technical support for a variety of hardware and software platforms including Oracle client/server, SQL client/server, network printing, Internet/Intranet, Dell desktops/laptops/tablets, Panasonic Toughbook laptops, Lenovo desktops, Microsoft Surface Pro tablets, peripherals (printers, plotters, scanners, receipt printers, audio/video equipment, etc.), and wireless mobile devices. Assists in maintaining hardware and software inventory. Provide IT support for LDS Emergency Management operations. Conducts work in a team-based, collaborative manner with an emphasis on customer service and quality assurance.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school; plus five years of experience in the installation, configuring, and troubleshooting of personal computers, network/telecommunications systems, multi-platform systems, mainframe interfaces; or possession of an associate degree in computer science, or related field; plus three years of similar experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certifications: A+, Network+, Dell and Microsoft
  • Experience supporting end users in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Experience supporting Dell workstations, laptops, tablets
  • Support of Microsoft Office 365 suite applications
  • Troubleshooting and resolving a variety of tablet, laptop, desktop, client/server, wireless field devices, and remote access problems.
  • Experience supporting Oracle and SQL Client/Server environments
  • Experience supporting conference room audio/video equipment
  • Managing multiple priorities and tasks with competing deadlines and operating in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
  • Providing technical advice and support to end users and high level management. In-depth knowledge of: Computers/laptops/tablets, printers desktop/network, peripheral hardware (scanners, plotters, cameras, receipt printers, cashier drawers, etc.), conference/training room audio/video equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift/move equipment up to 60lbs with assistance; dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer driven equipment; sufficient mobility to provide support to customers generally in an office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
