We are currently seeking a part-time Overnight Student Life Assistant (OMSLA) for 2019 – 2020 school year to work collaboratively with Student Life Counselors (SLCs) to create and maintain a safe residence hall environment in which students can learn and grow while modeling, guiding, and teaching students social, self-help, and lifelong learning skills. The Overnight and Morning Student Life Assistant (OMSLA) positions’ primary purpose is to ensure the overall safety and care of our scholars during the night and into morning Student Life (SL) program hours. The OMSLA collaborates with Student Life and Academic staff as part of a 24/hr. team that cultivates restorative practices to promote a safe residential hall environment and teaches, guides and develops lifelong learning skills. Additionally, the OMSLA is to establish continuity of SL learning goals and academic support through passive programming, scholar assessments, behavior data input (Kickboard), and the supervision of routines that support the development of academic excellence and social skill mastery.


  1. Oversee and/or provide structure and expectations for morning routines, which could include but not limited to:
  2. SL learning goals,
  3. H.A.L.L.S.,
  4. D.E.A.R.,
  5. Restorative Practices,
  7. Proper personal hygiene care and organization of shared spaces,
  8. Reinforcement of SL program routines and expectations, including breakfast protocols, and
  9. Time management that supports timely transitions, and the monitoring of uniform and HW/project compliance.
  10. Nurture each scholar entrusted to their care consistent with the Student Life Program:
    • Create scheduling routines that support an awareness of the location of scholars during your shift, including escorting scholars to Wellness Suite, dining hall, etc. and supporting overall campus supervision of student scholars and property,
    • Build relationships with appropriate boundaries that provide an awareness of healthy socio-emotional development,
    • Observe warning signs of emotional distress and report to pertinent SL and/or Wellness Suite staff,
    • Develop student scholars’ voice driven programming and support,
    • Encourage positive student scholar outcomes through incentives and celebrations, and
    • Establish clear and consistent communication across SEED DC departments including pertinent SL staff and families concerning our scholar’s progress, accomplishments, growth areas, and concerns on a scheduled regular basis.
    Building and fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders (students, staff, families):
    • Model appropriate behavior, attire and language, including SEED Core Values,
    • Cultivate a culture of respect and appreciation for diversity,
    • Actively listen to our scholars’ thoughts, feelings, concerns, and problems to determine where SEED resources academically, socially, and emotionally are needed for scholars’ success,  
    • Practice active listening, pro-active teaching, corrective teaching, and self-awareness at all times, and
    • Preserve a space that honors our scholars’ voice with dignity, especially during situations that require the use of appropriate skills to prevent and/or de-escalate intense situations.
    Submit all required documentation in a timely manner, such as but not limited to:
    • Overnight/Morning Log
    • Reading logs
    • Morning Activity Log
    • Monthly assessment Logs
    • Passive Programming Bulletin Boards and/or projects
    • Jr. Assistant residence hall workload logs
    • Timesheets and Leave Forms
    • Chrome book use and daily storage logs
    • Scholar files
    • Substitute binder
    • Kickboard
    • Manage and maintain the house/residence hall by:
      • Conducting daily room and shared space inspections to ensure a  safe, secure, clean, nurturing and visual learning environment,
      • Maintain the common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and corridors through house meetings, clear expectations of use and designated assignments for chores per house/floor,
      • Follow SL protocols for all technology ensuring they are maintained with respect and care,
      • Submit work orders for necessary repairs and/or damage of property via SchoolDude,
      • Review emergency protocols, including exit plans with student scholars, and
      • Maintain OSHA, first aid and universal precaution guidelines and procedures.

• Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent, in social sciences or related field.

• 2-3 years direct experience in adolescent development, residential/boarding education, counseling, activities coordination or related fields.
