Job Summary: The successful candidate will contribute to radiation efforts on Civil Space and National Security Space missions. This will require collaboration across teams, including spacecraft and instrument systems engineers, design engineers, and component engineers. The position will include evaluation of the space radiation environment, assessment of its effect on space systems in the areas of radiation, radiation testing, and recommendation of mitigation approaches. Duties: Support APL radiation efforts for one or more programs/instruments. Run radiation environment and transport codes. Develop test requirements for radiation testing of EEE components and materials. Support total dose and single event effect testing efforts Document test plans, test results, and analyses. Required Qualifications: MS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. 2-5 years of experience with radiation effects and modeling in the space environment. Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to work with a variety of people across engineering and science disciplines. Desired Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Experience leading radiation efforts for a flight program. Experience with FastRad, Novice, and/or other radiation transport codes. Experience with radiation testing methods and facilities. Experience with other space environmental effects (eg detector noise evaluation, internal charging, surface charging). Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel to test facilities will be required. Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information.
