The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, is located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative programmer to join a dynamic diverse group providing superior mechanical and aeronautical engineering services and products to address the hard challenges for programs of national importance. Job Summary: Develop innovative algorithms and improve existing high performance computing codes of ground-breaking physics-based models and simulations using state-of-the-art programming methods. Remain current with emerging technologies to improve group capabilities. Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task): 1. Working closely with multi disciplinary subject matter experts across the Laboratory to develop new algorithms to meet evolving computational needs. (30%) 2. Design and apply regression testing of existing code base. (10%) 3. Document algorithms, develop quality and version control procedures, package codes for external use. (20%) 4. Continuously evaluate and improve existing codes. Required Qualifications: BS Degree in Engineering, Science, Math or Computer Science. A minimum of 3 years' experience developing codes using OpenGL, CUDA, and/or raytracing libraries. Expertise in programming languages of C , C, and CUDA. Scientific programming experience in applied engineering problems using state of the art platforms such as GPUs. Strong understanding of linear algebra, graphical scene generation concepts and practices. Familiarity with software systems engineering, software packaging and documentation. Highly motivated individual eager to learn and apply cutting edge computing technologies for advanced applications. Strong communication skills and ability to work efficiently in a team environment. Ability to obtain a Secret level clearance. Desired Qualifications : MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science. Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel to sponsor, contractor, and peer organization facilities for meetings and reviews. Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information.
