SUMMARY

The Assistant Superintendent - Communications Systems Maintenance (COMM) is responsible for assisting in the planning, scheduling and supervising of the communications electronic maintenance effort.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures proper corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance is being conducted on the communications electronic equipment within assigned area.

Conducts field inspections to observe operations, maintenance, training and troubleshooting procedures. Inspects equipment rooms to ensure cleanliness, functionally maintained, and safe conditions exist.

Enforces Safety policies in all assigned work areas. Assists with investigations into equipment failures, shop and related maintenance area accidents, determining causes and extent of damage to systems and initiate corrective action.

Prepares and presents oral/written reports relative to equipment status, personnel requirements, training needs, safety concerns/issues.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Attends meetings and seminars related to functional responsibilities.

May operate an Authority vehicle to support job responsibilities.

Assists in establishing work schedules. Maintains check on work progress, recommending improvements in work methods, techniques and ensuring timely repair of equipment.

KNOWLEDGE

Working knowledge of CCTV, FIA (Fire Intrusion Access control), Radio Communication systems and Public Address Systems

Working Knowledge of IP network connectivity as it relates to CCTV, Public Address Systems and FIA Systems.

Working knowledge of Public information Display Systems (PIDS)

Knowledge of or the ability to attain rapidly, a thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations, maintenance systems operational plans and procedures and current labor relations agreements of the Authority.

Knowledge of maintenance management system.

SKILLS

Ability to assist with troubleshooting complex technical problems and ability to make effective technical decisions.

Ability to perform data analysis and research of problems, evaluating alternatives and making creative recommendations.

Skill in planning, prioritizing, organizing work.

ABILITIES

Ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, SOFTWARE, AND HARDWARE REQUIRED: (Please list)

Use of software tools such as WORD, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Associate's degree or vocational/technical school degree in Engineering or Electronics

In lieu of an Associate's, a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years of Communication System Maintenance experience may be considered

Experience

A minimum of ten (10) years of experience performing technical electronics work to include 4 years in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Electronics
