Coordinator of Strategic Communications and Marketing
The College of Sciences at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for the Coordinator of Strategic Communications and Marketing (full-time, 12 month) position. Reporting directly to the Dean, College of Sciences, the Coordinator of Strategic Communications and Marketing will develop, implement and manage the strategic communications and branding for the Old Dominion University College of Sciences, encompassing publications (reports, articles, presentation materials, etc.), media relations, website, social media, and advertising.
Other duties include: oversee all communications and marketing efforts and activities for the College of Sciences, including development and implementation of yearly and long-term strategic marketing communications plans; develop metrics for measuring the ROI on communications campaigns and regularly assess campaigns through applying these metrics; collaborate with a wide variety of dignitaries, alumni and other internal and external persons on promoting College of Sciences sponsored events; promote academic programs and departments, as well as the College’s outreach activities; oversee all publications and collateral material along with standardization of the College’s graphics and brand identity; increase recognition of the College’s activities and accomplishments by both internal and external constituents through creative and effective storytelling; craft, oversee and maintain the College’s digital footprint, which includes web and social media presence.
Required Education: Master’s degree in communications, English, marketing, public relations or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree and related experience equivalent to a master’s degree in the above fields.
Required Qualifications: Considerable experience in developing and managing all aspects of effective marketing and public relations plans. Considerable experience writing and editing professional newsletters and promotional materials. Considerable experience at writing research press releases, as well as feature articles and straight news stories. Considerable knowledge of marketing, public relations, and communications principles/practices and strategies. Working knowledge of data collection, evaluation and reporting of program/plan effectiveness. Considerable knowledge of and skill in using Microsoft Office and Adobe software such as Creative Suite 6 Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or similar applications. Considerable skill in editing, grammar and writing persuasively. Considerable knowledge of social media avenues and technologies for current emerging trends in marketing and advertising. Basic photographic skills. Comprehensive communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with clients of diverse cultures. Demonstrated ability to assist in the composition layout and design of various college publications. Demonstrated ability to identify, organize and accomplish tasks in priority order and keep several projects moving ahead simultaneously all with a minimum of supervision. Demonstrated ability to interpret guidelines, policies and procedures to fit changing situations.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience or training in science, considerable higher education experience in developing and managing all aspects of an effective marketing and public relations plan, and demonstrated ability to interact and maintain effective relationships with alumni.
