Summary

This position is located in the Office of Staffing and Workforce Planning (SWP), Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This Nurse Administrative Coordinator position oversees the clinical and administrative operations in the Clinical Center on the "off shifts" (evenings and nights and 24/7 on the weekends and holidays.)

Responsibilities

The Nurse Administrative Coordinator supports continuity of care during these work shifts through the identification, acquisition, evaluation, development and scheduling of nursing personnel. The Nurse Administrative Coordinator serves organizationally as a liaison between the Clinical Center Nursing Department and other Clinical Center departments to assure safe patient care.

As an Administrative Coordinator in the Office of Staffing and Workforce Planning your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Act as a senior administrator in the hospital while on duty
  • Responsible for staffing, problem solving, performance management and conflict resolution during the "off shifts" and "weekends"
  • Serve as a liaison to physicians regarding clinical issues
  • Support the implementation of clinical research protocols by assessing and distributing available resources to meet protocol needs
  • Monitor educational, organizational, ethical, regulatory, legislative, clinical practice and health care delivery system issues and trends to ensure compliance
  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources to maintain budget and fiscal accountability
  • Manage resources allocated to the Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND), including identification and justification of the need for additional resources and/or the redeployment of resources to meet program needs
  • Assist in developing staff members knowledge and skills related to the nursing and research process, by designing and implementing learning experiences to help nurses acquire, maintain, or increase their competence
  • Oversee and resolve customer service issues occurring on the "off shifts"
  • Provide shift report to appropriate Clinical Center personnel to communicate and document significant events during the "off shifts"
  • Collaborate with Nursing Staff, Institute and Clinical Center personnel identifying opportunities to improve care and outcomes for patients participating in research
  • Evaluate staffing processes for effectiveness
  • Patient Advocate
The Administrator Coordinator in this role will utilize advanced skills and knowledge of leadership, management, and resource allocation

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS - 13 level if you meet the following qualification requirements:

EDUCATION: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

LICENSURE: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS -12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership in specialized nursing care in research or an acute hospital setting; managing staff and resources allocated to nursing programs; identifying the need for and implementing nursing procedures to maximize the use of resources and improve efficiency; facilitating or implementing interventions to address nursing staff competency or professional development needs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
