Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and reviews maintenance and repair work on the specialized armored fleet.
  • Prepares detailed reports on compromised armoring systems which include measurements, ballistic integrity evaluation, and pictures.
  • Compares data collected from field inspections against government issued tried and tested designs in order to arrange an overall assessment of manufacturer's product.
  • Recommends changes to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of the mission. Explains work requirements, methods and procedures, and provides advice to Supervisor when problems arise.
  • Adjusts plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as feasible.
  • Overhauls the full range of systems on heavy vehicles and equipment. Overhauls carburetor and fuel injection systems, and emissions control systems.
  • Overhauls systems such as diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines, transmissions, and gear reduction systems.
  • Overhauls drive line assemblies, differentials, power dividers, dual speed axles. Overhauls electrical/electronic systems, ignition, starting, and wiring systems.
  • Disassembles, repairs, replaces, reconditions and rebuilds components of the various armoring systems installed on Department vehicles based on specifications in manufacturer's technical manuals and industry practices.
  • Inspects and approves/disapproves repairs done by internal personnel or outside contractors to ensure vehicles are operating appropriately.
  • Troubleshoots and recommends solutions for vehicle maintenance problems that are directly or indirectly related to the stress placed on vehicles by the armor systems.
  • Troubleshoots and tests the full range of systems on the fleet and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, disassembles, and/or overhauls major components, systems, and operating mechanisms such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other assemblies.

Qualifications

Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Please provide such documentation on resume and narrative responses to the assessment questionnaire.

For CP-08/GS-10: Applicants qualifying for the CP-08/GS-10 level includes one (1) year/52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least CP-07/GS-09 level. Specialized experience consists of: knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of complex major automobile systems and assemblies to troubleshoot and repair systems such as: gasoline and diesel engines; automatic and manual transmissions and gear reduction systems; transaxles; drive line and rear axle assemblies including electrical, air, vacuum, or mechanically controlled differentials; electrical and electronic systems and accessories; carbureted and electronic fuel injection systems; exhaust and emission control systems; conventional and power steering mechanisms and hydraulic power-assist systems; and other systems of similar complexity.

AND

THIS POSITION REQUIRES :

1. Valid driver's license and Commercial driver's license to include Air brake and Bus endorsement.

2. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T-Series (truck) certifications in all of the following six (6) areas listed below:
  • T1 Gasoline Engines
  • T2 Diesel Engines
  • T3 Drive Train
  • T4 Brakes
  • T5 Suspension and Steering
  • T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems
