Summary

You will serve as a Physician (Psychiatry in the Direcotrates for Mental Health and Primary Care of NAVMEDCEN PORTSMOUTH VA.

Responsibilities

  • You will provide care to mental health and substance abuse disorder patients.
  • You will make fit for duty and other administrative determinations on active duty members completing appropriate paperwork for limited duty forms, medical evaluation boards and security clearance evaluations.
  • Your will participates in the training of all mental health directorate personnel (Physicians, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Practical and Registered Nurses, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Substance Abuse Counselors).
  • You will clarify and provide expert guidance to define and resolve problems in the formulation of diagnosis, treatment program and patient prognosis, in the cases presenting usual or difficult problems.
  • You will maintain health and clinical records in accordance with current regulations and standards.

  • Work involves walking, standing, sitting, keyboarding, manipulaton of a computer mouse and viewing of computer screen for prolonged periods of time.
  • Incumbent is subject to pre-employment credentialing of DA Health Care Provider which requires acredentials verification and doucment in accordance with WAR 690-300.
  • Incumbent must be licensed to practice medicine in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or the territory of Puerto RIco.
  • Inccumbent must participate in clininc on-call coerage to include weekends, after hours and designated holidays or urgent and emergent coverage requirements as directed.
  • May be required to serve on Temporary Additional Duty assignments as a member of the Special Psychiatric Raid Intervention Team with associated requirements as directed. Travel is less than one to two weeks per year.
  • Per BUDMEDINST 6220.9B, personnel, including direct/indirect care providers, administrators, ancillary services, volunteers, students/anyone who comes in contact with patients must receive/maintain appropriate vaccination against season influenza.
  • HCW without documentation of HBV immunity or documentation of a completed HBV immunization series that declines the HBV shall be required to sign a Hepatitis B Immunization Declination Form prior to reporting to work.
  • Health Care Workers (HCW) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or HBV testing.
  • This is a designated drug testing position and employee will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Per BUDMEDINST 1500.15C incumbent must possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information.


Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate in the private or public sector at least 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training such as:

- Provides care and clinical supervision for a range of patients' psychiatric presentations, ages, conditions and complexity (outpatient and inpatient, consultation liaison, emergency and substance use disorders treatment services).
- Examines and conducts thorough evaluations of presenting patients including integrating of laboratory, radiological and clinical findings prescribing appropriate pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment or referring patient to appropriate specialty clinics.
- Provides professional consultation, supervision and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as nurses, corpsmen, psychologists, medical students, interns, residents and other healthcare providers.
- Directs, supervises and collaborates with the treatment team to provide comprehensive program activities to ensure the provision of a therapeutic climate best suited to patient's psychological and physical needs.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

A Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
AND
I possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
AND
I have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. (Note - graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada).
