Summary

This position is located within the Office of Clinical and Preventive Services, Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention. The incumbent in this position serves as the Senior Clinical Consultant in planning, managing, coordinating, and evaluating clinical components of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention programs. This position reports to the Director, Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert clinical advisor to the Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention Director on diabetes clinical care and education issues affecting American Indian and Alaska Native people. This includes legislation, research, reimbursement for care, diabetes education guidelines, policies, procedures, best practices, and diabetes standards of care.
  • Provide national leadership and professional guidance to strengthen and improve the quality and scope of services for clinical, community, and public health services consistent with the goals of the division.
  • Write and edit correspondence, meeting materials, and training materials to develop agency public health messages for consumers and health providers. Prepare and present reports summarizing results of diabetes research.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings and conference calls with appropriate health care providers, administrative staff, and various teams and workgroups to obtain and disseminate diabetes treatment and prevention information.
  • Advise in the development of public health demonstration projects and translation activities related to diabetes treatment and prevention and other health related health concerns.

Telework may be authorized. The locality pay will be adjusted accordingly.
Full-Time telework is available under the IHS Flexible Workplace Arrangement Program (FWAP). The locality rate of pay will vary based on telework site and/or designated duty station location identified for workplace flexibility. The incumbent of the position MUST live in the local area of the designated position duty station locations identified.

Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

Residency Training: 5 years of residency training in a Medical Specialty OR have equivalent training and work experience in a Medical Specialty (e.g., a senior specialist with 3-4 years of experience beyond residency training) that demonstrates the ability to provide patient care of an extremely difficult and responsible level.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing advice, guidance, and consultation on chronic diseases, diabetes, complications of diabetes, and health systems consistent with the latest advances in quality care for diabetes patients. Leading, directing, planning, managing, and evaluating a health program or organization which includes chronic disease treatment and prevention.
