Summary

If selected, you will join a team responsible for governance and adherence to enterprise standards and operational best practices for external facing services to include Domain Registration, DNS, mail services, enterprise file transfer mechanisms, external system interconnections, and data feeds.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Maintain an inventory of all DMZ assets, including appliances, servers, platforms, and applications that are authorized for use in the demilitarized zone (DMZ).
  • Review and maintain configuration requirements of DMZ assets.
  • Develop, create, and enforce DMZ policies and procedures pursuant to enterprise and government-wide security policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Oversee access and authorization of DMZ assets.
  • Monitor and perform analysis of DMZ traffic for potential anomalous activity related to security and performance.
  • Develop and execute strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities associated with external-facing services.
  • Consult with OIT security teams and industry communities on security best practices.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: reviewing work to ensure it is in line with established standards or to identify deficiencies (Attention to Detail); collaborating with stakeholders to make progress towards a common goal (Customer service); explaining technical information orally to non-technical audiences (Oral Communication); and evaluating alternatives to recommend solutions to hardware or software problems (Problem Solving).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.

SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level. Specialized experience includes all of the following:
  • Implementing standards and authentication and authorization protocols (AAA), applied cryptography, transport-layer security (TLS), security vulnerabilities and remediation;
  • Experience implementing external-facing technologies (e.g., web applications, BGP, VPN, web Services and Service Oriented Architectures) and of network/web related protocols; and
  • Experience performing analysis of network log data and other related sources to identify anomalous activity and troubleshoot performance issues.
