Summary

As a Security Assistant at the GS-0086-5 with a full performance level of GS-07 , you will be part of National Background Investigations Bureau, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for a variety of technical and clerical tasks in support of the activities of the Security Services Team, within the Security and Facility Services group, National Background Investigations Bureau (NBIB).

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of clerical activities to include preparing and mailing various materials, opening and distributing mail within the work unit, copying and faxing.
  • Answering routine telephone inquiries from internal and external customers, taking messages and referring to appropriate staff.
  • Producing memoranda, rosters, reports and/or forms from rough draft using office automation equipment and software.
  • Performing or assist with special projects and assignments as needed.

Qualifications

For the GS 5, you must have the required specialized experience and/or education:

Specialized Experience: Must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service performing the following tasks:
  • Providing clerical support to an organization by maintaining files and data entry;
  • Reviewing and preparing correspondence to make any the necessary updates and revisions;
  • Answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate office; and
  • Performing a variety of administrative functions to support the organization (i.e.; plan and organize work, maintaining security of sensitive information, reviewing documents for accuracy,).

    OR

    Education: Must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite and is creditable up to the GS-5. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (must provide transcripts to verify hours)

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: Must have a combination of specialized experience described above and post high school education described above in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) that totals at least one year. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (must provide transcripts to verify hours)

    Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-5 level.
