About the Position: This position is located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland, under the Director for Surgery, Department of Rehabilitation, Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for planning, developing and implementing the Orthotic and Prosthetic Service?s multi-million dollar budget.
• Provides supervisory guidance to the Contract Officer Representatives (COR) within the Service for prosthetic and orthotic contracts, blanket purchase agreements (BPAs) and credit card purchases.
• Develops long-range purchase plans to insure state-of-the-art status for equipment and services. Responsible for compliance with OSHA regulations.
• Employee is responsible for the overall supervision of the MTF?s Orthotic and Prosthetic Service, consisting of orthotists, prosthetists, supply technicians, and administrative support staff.
• Responsible for directing each practitioner in a manner to ensure the highest quality and standardized care to the patients that are seen.
• Reviews and updates job descriptions of subordinates to ensure they are accurate and current.
• Responsible for the management of clinical data, to include Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Tricare Management Reports, etc.

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18. You must undergo specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification checks to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position.

Specialized Experience: Oneyear of specialized experience which includes planning, developing, and implementing an Orthotic and Prosthetic Service's budget, providing long-range purchase plans to insure state-of-the-art status for equipment and services, managing clinical data to optimize service operations, participating as a member of the medical treatment team as related to correct rehabilitative goals, using technologies commonly used in the orthotic or prosthetic applications, and dealing with patients' orthotic or prosthetic needs while recognizing their emotional and mental outlook and attitudes.
