About the Position: The U.S. Army's Chemical Materials Activity (CMA) is the world leader in programs to store, treat, and dispose of chemical weapons safely and effectively. The activity developed and used technologies to safely store and eliminate chemical weapons at seven stockpile sites while protecting the public, its workers and the environment.

Responsibilities

You will serve as an Operations Center Specialist responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and tracking command-level emergency response activities, mission critical information processing and reporting actions, personnel support requirements and related on-going operations essential to the storage and destruction of chemical warfare materials, chemical accidents and incidents. Participates in the development of operational strategies for emergency response planning; preparation and submission of incident reports and daily situation reports. Serves as Critical/Crisis Action Management team member executing emergency response plans. Interfaces and coordinates with various government officials and senior leaders.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year at the GS-07 level which includes: 1) Experience supporting and/or working in an Operations Center that includes analyzing and interpreting data from a variety of sources for non-emergency and emergency operations such as the storage and destruction of chemical warfare materials, chemical-accidents and incidents; 2) Developing guidance and training personnel on Emergency Operations Center computerized equipment; 3) Experience supporting and/or serving as a member of a Critical/Crisis Action Management Team for Chemical Accident or Incident Response that included such duties as: analyzing the situation, executing emergency response plans, initiating notification procedures, and assisting with briefings.

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
