Summary

This position is located in HUD OIG, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for Office of Special Inquiry (OSI). The OSI is a unique multidisciplinary team of Auditors, Criminal Investigators, Forensic Auditors, and Investigative Counsels, all with specialized skills. The incumbent serves as an Attorney-Adviser, providing legal and investigative support to the OSI.

As the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we remain an independent and objective organization, conducting and supervising audits, evaluations, and investigations relating to the Department's programs and operations. As an Attorney-Adviser, you will:
  • Independently or as a team leader, perform the full range of legal functions in connection with investigations regarding allegations or suspected violations of Federal criminal, civil, and administrative laws, including rules or regulations relative to any of HUD's programs or operations.
  • Conduct investigations and inquiries. Draft subpoenas and document requests, review evidence, conduct witness interviews, and draft reports of investigation. Engage with DOJ attorneys and defense counsel.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Inspector General for Office of Special Inquiry (AIG-OSI) based on the incumbent's analysis of the evidence and relevant law.
  • Provide legal assistance to OSI criminal investigators and forensic auditors in their investigations and inquiries and their interactions with DOJ attorneys, subjects of investigations, and their counsel.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Experience conducting legal research; AND
  • Experience providing recommendations; AND
    Experience expressing legal requirement using oral and written communication skills.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also possess the following:
  • Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B., J.D. or equivalent.

AND
  • Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Desirable: Experience conducting investigations, criminal prosecutions or defense, or civil litigation.

Education

Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B., J.D. or equivalent.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
