Duties

Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform electrical and HVAC maintenance including other diversified duties in the construction and maintenance of over 270 structures and facilities (historic and non-historic).

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Responsibilities

This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.

Other financial incentives (i.e. relocation bonus or recruitment bonus), in lieu of relocation expense allowances may be negotiated

This position is concurrently open to all U.S. citizens under Announcement Number NC-1616-PRWI-19-10436278-DE.
  • Performs electrical maintenance, repairs, and installations
  • Plans layouts, troubleshoots, and tests electrical work
  • Performs inspections for contractor compliance with contract documents
  • Performs HVAC maintenance, repair, and installation
  • Plans layouts, troubleshoots, and completes HVAC work
  • Performs minor carpentry duties and makes repairs to buildings and quarters
  • Interprets complex blueprints and schematics
  • Operates maintenance equipment
  • Carries heavy equipment to work sites

The anticipated entry on duty date for this position is June 2019.

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    Physical Demands: Incumbent must be in good physical condition. Duties involve pushing, pulling or the carrying of objects of varying sizes and shapes, weighing up to 50 pounds. Duties may involve working from heights up to 50 feet such as on ladders, scaffolding, or an aerial lift.

    Working Conditions: Duties are performed both inside and outside in weather conditions varying from hot, humid summer heat to below freezing winter temperatures. Incumbent works in confined spaces such as attics, near ceilings, crawl spaces, and pits etc. The incumbent may be exposed to burns, cuts, bruises, smoke and fumes, flying particles when grinding or cutting, and the discomfort of wearing hoods and goggles. The incumbent may be subject to cuts from hand powered tools and the danger from flying splinters and chips.

    In addition, the incumbent may be required to work in other work crews as needed and as directed by their supervisor completing other assigned duties.

  • Merit Promotion Eligibility Documentation such as:
