Job title: Senior Food ScientistDepartment: Research and developmentStatus level: ExemptAccountability: Reports directly to Director of R&DAuthority: Will collaborate with a team of R&D Lab Technicians , Associate Food Scientists, Food Technologists and Food Scientists as directed by of Director of R&DInter relations: Contact with Director of R&D, Director of Marketing and Project Management, Food Scientists, Chefs, Sample Lab, Regulatory, Purchasing, Sales, Production and QC.Job summary: Will provide technical service and support to Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Quality Control as well as to Customers as required to generate and maintain sales to both Industrial and Food Service accounts. Will provide guidance as needed to Associate Food Scientists, Food Technologists and Food Scientists as directed by of Director of R&DDuties and Responsibilities: Specific duties include:. Review, work on and complete all projects entered by Sales in CRM and approved by management, for any account assigned to the scientist. Maintain close contact with R&D and other Technical groups of existing and potential customer. Plan, organize and develop seasoning blends to meet customers parameters in a timely manner. Develop and optimize seasoning blends for flavor, quality and profitability. Supervise internal sensory evaluations of new seasoning developments. Evaluate sensory data and write up results as needed. Document new ingredients and processes for new seasoning blends. Write ingredient statements, mixing instructions and usage instructions for new seasoning blends. Review documentation of ingredients and processes for new seasoning blends prior to first time production including those from Technicians, Associate Food Scientists and Food Scientists as needed. . Supervise first time blends and other production batches as needed and monitor blends for clarity of mixing instructions and manufacturability . Provide technical assistance in resolution of customer complaints. Maintain close contact with Sales and Marketing to monitor the food industry for new trends and developments. Provide technical information for use in marketing handouts. Maintain contact with food ingredient suppliers and order ingredient samples as needed. Travel as required with sales managers and directors to meet customers and perform product presentations . Attend sales meetings, tradeshows and conventions. Attend professional growth/development opportunities as they are made availableSkills and Education Requirements: A Bachelor of Science in Food Science or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a food product development setting. Working Conditions: Regular exposure to airborne particles or dust from spices and other ingredients. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.Needed attributes: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to write reports, correspondence and lab results. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
